simon 'tom' smith does it again!!!
notchers 9: The striker plays no shot at a ball which runs of his pads in the direction of fine leg, and the batsman run. in a attempt to run out the batsman a fielder throws the ball at the wicket, but the ball misses and goes on to cross the boundary. How many runs should be added to the total? _________________ Martin H.

The last few questions for the weekend!
notchers 10: The striker hits the ball high in the air; the batsmen run and have crossed on their secomd run before the non-striker calls out 'DROP IT'. The fielder fails to take the catch and , on appeal, the batsman is given out Obstructing the field, How many runs should be added to the total?
Notchhers 11......and which batsman is out (striker = 1, non-striker = 2)
extras The boundary is marked by a rope - the ball, hit high in the air lands full-toss on top of the rope. How many runs should be added to the total? _________________ Martin H.

I have come accross the official answers to the Scratchers vs Notchers quiz. We got all the questions correct bar two.
Martin - In your exitement you forgot to ask question 7 of the Notchers innings!
There was a lot of debate over Notchers question 6.
The question was 'The bowlers end umpire calls and signals wide ball and the ball goes on to cross the boundary. At the same time the stiker's end umpire calls and signals no ball because there are three fielders behind the line of the popping crease on the on side. How many separate signals should the scorer acknowledge?'
As I said at the time the original signals should not be acknowledged by the scorers. I think nearly everyone got that once the ball was dead the standing umpire would signal no ball and then four which would both be acknowleged by the scorers.
So what is the third signal? Well we all missed it but once you know the answer it is obvious.
The bowlers end umpire initially signalled a wide therefore the batsman could not have hit the ball. So once the ball was dead the umpire would have signalled 'bye' in between the no ball and four signals. All three would have been acknowledged by the scorer.
